I’ll be happy when…
Are you a victim of the “I’ll be happy when” syndrome?
I’ve definitely been a victim of this in the past. I used to think I’ll be happy when I hit 100,000 subscribers on YouTube, or when I make a certain amount of money, or if I got to travel to a certain number of places on my bucket list.
I’ve never admitted this before but I’ll be totally honest with you. Once I reached those milestones that I thought would make me happy, I didn’t feel any happier. Of course, in the moment, I was quite excited, but on a larger scale, I still felt the same, and didn’t feel any happier.
That’s because happiness doesn’t work that way. Happiness is a state of mind cultivated through a perspective shift. In other words, happiness is NOT an effect, it’s a cause.
The ironic thing is many times when the “When” happens it brings other problems with it. When I hit 100,000 subscribers, I had to suddenly focus on the business side of things and make sure they’re aligning with my channel’s growth. The problems never really end, and it’s human nature to keep wanting more. We keep delaying our happiness to future accomplishments when we can just choose to be happy right now.
The key to experiencing true happiness is when we are able to find joy in the moment we are living right now and enjoy the present. Sounds so cliched but it’s a good reminder for all of us.
How can I experience happiness in the moment I am living right now? When we constantly ask ourselves this question, it will soon become second nature for us to search for the joy each moment holds.
Live happier now. :)
